Before kick-off, the teams and 194 supporters observed a remembrance silence.
There was a rather scrappy start with the Leiston being the first to have a shot at goal which went wide.
With 30 minutes gone, the game came to life with Harwich taking the lead when Alfie Eldridge laid the ball in for Louie Bloom (pictured) to score with an excellent shot on the turn into the bottom corner of the net.
Ten minutes before half time the Shrimpers increased their advantage thanks to the enterprise of Liam White, who chased a back pass to put pressure on visitors' goalkeeper Marcus Mehew and, in beating him, score a fine opportunist goal.
In the second half, Harwich pressed from the restart with Mehew forced to turn his own defender's header over the crossbar.
The Shrimpers soon netted their third goal, Bloom again finishing well with a shot down the middle of the goal after Mehew had been drawn out.

Harwich were unstoppable now, mounting a clever move that began with Alfie Smith and ended when Bloom unselfishly spotting Joe Knight well placed and he made no mistake to net the fourth goal.
There was still 20 minutes remaining and Mehew did well to dive and hold onto a fierce shot. However, Harwich were not to be denied, with a 5th goal coming from another well-worked move when Alfie Canning's cross saw man-of-the-match Bloom complete his hat-trick with a clinical finish into the corner of the net.
Goal difference is neck and neck at the top of the table and a close-range goal number six from Canning proved enough to take the Shrimpers into second place.

Leiston had not threatened the Harwich goal but in the closing minutes they did come close late on. First they were thwarted by a Dan Keeble interception and in the dying seconds goalkeeper Brad Cook was at last called into action, making an excellent double stop to keep a clean sheet.
Harwich are now 5 points behind the leaders Haverhill Rovers but have a game in hand and, on their current form, will fancy themselves to close that gap.
