VICTORY AT CLAPTON SENDS HARWICH THROUGH TO NEXT ROUND OF ESSEX SENIOR CUP

VICTORY AT CLAPTON SENDS HARWICH THROUGH TO NEXT ROUND OF ESSEX SENIOR CUP

Terry Francis2 Oct - 12:16

THE REWARD FOR THE SHRIMPERS' CONVINCING PERFORMANCE WILL BE A HOME TIE IN THE NEXT ROUND AGAINST EITHER BENFLEET OR FC CLACTON

Three really good goals featured in the Shrimpers' win in this BBC Essex Senior Cup match played at the historic Old Spotted Dog Ground in east London.
There was an even start to the match with Idreess Namisi firing a dangerous ball across the face of the Clapton goalmouth, whilst at the other end Harwich goalkeeper Brad Cook, making his 150th appearance for the club, did well to push out a fierce shot which was then cleared to safety.
The Shrimpers enjoyed more of the play, which was mainly conducted in the Clapton half, but the home side did mount some quick breaks with the pacy Noah Adejokun proving a handful.
Harwich took the lead in the 30th minute with a superb 25-yard shot from Tyler Sullivan (pictured) that fizzed into the net just inside the post.
The Shrimpers increased their lead 8 minutes later when Alfie Smith's accurate, long, raking pass was headed into the roof of the net by the hard-working Danny Garrad.
Adejokun broke through the Harwich defence but his shooting was off target and did not match his skilful approach work and at half time the Shrimpers went in deserving their two-goal lead.
After the interval, Harwich passed the ball well and with 75 minutes gone put the result beyond doubt when Alfie Eldridge scored his first goal for the club with an excellent diving header.
The vocal Clapton Community fans among the crowd of 135 had cheered their team on from start to finish and at the final whistle they sportingly applauded the Harwich team off the the field. Our best wishes to them for success in their Southern Counties East League campaign this season.
A home tie against either Benfleet or FC Clacton, both of the Essex Senior League, now awaits. It is provisionally scheduled to take place on October 15. The Benfleet v Clacton game was postponed on Tuesday and has been rearranged for October 8.
Harwich team: Brad Cook, Alfie Smith, Will Crisell, Dan Keeble, Reece Harte, Tyler Sullivan, Liam White, Luke Mayhew (capt), Idreess Namisi, Louie Bloom and Danny Garrad. Substitutes: Alfie Eldridge, Harry Tuck, Alfie Canning, Ewan Livingston (all used).
