Harwich manager Matt Carmichael was taking a short holiday break and so assistant Craig Clarke took charge of the team, with Mark Sharp and Glenn Eldridge at his side. The Shrimpers were also without goalkeeper Brad Cook, resting an injury, and so Laurence Whymark stepped into the breach.
Framlingham got off to a flying start, taking the lead in the 3rd minute. Following an attack down their left flank, Harry Brown fired a low shot into the far corner of the net.
Harwich came back but Town's goalkeeper Callum Simmons made an excellent acrobatic diving save to claw away Idreess Namisi's shot.
In the 12th minute, the Harwich defence was caught short again, this time with a cross from the right which Brown hit first time to increase Framlingham's lead.
Ewan Livingston made a good run for Harwich and from his cross to the near post Danny Garrad headed inches wide.
The heavy rain was making the playing surface slippery to turn on and the unsure Harwich defence was given another warning when Brown's attempt to chip Whymark landed on the roof of the net.
The Shrimpers then had a good effort when skipper Gareth Heath, playing his 250th game for the club, fired in a 25-yard drive that Simmons did well to push out for a corner kick.
Midway through the half, Brown completed his hat-trick and before half time netted his second consecutive 4-goal haul, making him undoubtedly Town's man of the match.
Harwich managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half but, against a Framlingham defence who gave nothing away, they could not reduce the arrears.
An unhappy evening for Harwich ended when central defender Jack Wood was sent off following a last-ditch foul.
