DISAPPOINTMENT FOR HARWICH UNDER 23s AS THEY LOSE TO LAKENHEATH

THE SHRIMPERS HAD BEEN VICTORIOUS AT LAKENHEATH LAST WEEK BUT WERE BEATEN 2-0 IN THE REVERSE FIXTURE TO DENT THEIR TITLE HOPES
Harwich's first opportunity came when Alex Pryke broke through the visitors' defence and choose the shooting option but from a wide angle he put the ball over the bar.
Harwich defender Tony Clarke did well to clear the ball at the expense of a corner when a goal looked likely but with 15 minutes gone Lakenheath took the lead with a powerful shot taken in the penalty area which gave goalkeeper Matt Huggins no chance.
The Shrimpers came back with Ewan Livingston making a good run before being brought down on the edge of the penalty area but Archie Corner's free kick sailed over the crossbar.
Ben Barlow was a star in the Lakenheath goal and just before half time he pulled off an excellent diving save from Pryke's fierce shot.
After the break, Harwich came close when Barlow made another good save, this time with his feet.
With 65 minutes gone Lakenheath increased their lead with a superbly placed free kick, taken from the edge of the penalty area, which curled into the top corner of the net, again giving Huggins no chance to save.
Harwich were up against it now but with time to comeback and they were within inches of scoring when Connor Humphrys' effort struck the crossbar.
Lakenheath were determined not to surrender their lead and although Harwich pressed and created chances they just could not find the goal which would get them back into contention.
Harwich team: Matt Huggins, Tony Clarke, Oscar Warnes, Solomon Griffiths, Louis Manhood, Archie Corner, Alex Pryke, Freddy Bethell, Ewan Livingston, Connor Humphrys and Jack Elvested. Substitutes: Henry Cross, Bailey Hymas, Darren Bethell and Michael Clarke.
